About FreePDF
FreePDF is a small set of online tools for the everyday PDF jobs most people hit sooner or later: merging a few files, splitting out a page, shrinking something that's too big to email, or converting to and from Word, images, and Markdown. No account, no trial, no “upgrade to unlock” wall.
Your files stay private
Files are converted on our server and then deleted right away. We don't keep copies, we don't build a library of your documents, and nothing is shared with third parties. The uploaded file and its converted output are removed as soon as your download is ready, so a PDF you convert in the morning is long gone by lunchtime.
For genuinely sensitive documents, the safest option is always to process them on a machine you control. For everything else, converting here and downloading the result is quick and leaves nothing behind.
How it works
The conversions run on the server rather than in your browser, which is why they work the same on a phone as on a laptop and don't choke on larger files. Under the hood we lean on well-established open-source libraries rather than reinventing PDF handling: pypdf for merging, splitting and compression, LibreOffice for Office documents, pdfium for rendering pages to images, and Pillow for image work.
That choice matters for quality: merging or splitting copies pages as-is, so the text stays selectable and nothing is re-encoded; and Office conversions go through the same engine LibreOffice itself uses, so fonts and layout hold together.
Why it's free
The site is supported by unobtrusive ads. That's the whole business model, so there's no premium tier, no per-file charge, and no daily cap we're nudging you to pay your way past. If a tool is here, you can use it as much as you like.
